Scorers Do Count

For the attention of ALL SCORERS

The Association of Cricket Officials (ACO), supported by the England and Wales Cricket Board, (ECB) is the organisation that represents cricket officials in the recreational game.

The ECB ACO is offering, for one year only, the chance to be a recognised ECB ACO scorer and credit you with a relevant Scorers’ Award; Level 1 or 2.  This will not involve any courses or exams, simply a verification of the standard that you are currently scoring at.

This initiative is aimed at verifying and rewarding the work of Scorers at all levels from friendly, school, youth and feeder league matches, up to and including those who score in Premier or Senior leagues or above.

It is recommended that from 2012 all Premier League clubs should have an ECB ACO L2 scorer and this process will help clubs to achieve that. This aspect of the game is also an integral part in gaining and maintaining any ClubMark status.

PLEASE COMPLETE THE FORM even if you do not wish to apply for accreditation so that we can update our database and more efficiently service the needs of scorers.

To apply for the accreditation please complete the attached application form and return it to ECB ACO. You will then be contacted to arrange for your verification to take place. This is offered free to all ECB ACO members and if you are not an ECB ACO member then a charge of £30 will be made which will include your first year’s FREE ACO MEMBERSHIP. Details of membership benefits can be found at www.ecb.co.uk/ecbaco but include free CRB disclosure, Insurance, quarterly magazine, and a national appointment system providing opportunities to score at a higher level.

The ECB ACO is committed to providing a pathway for all officials that mirrors that for players and coaches – that is, from the Playground to the Test Arena. If, on the other hand, your ambitions do not extend beyond scoring for your local club, then you are equally valued for the contribution that you can make to this great game of ours.

This offer is only available until the end of March 2012. Further information on this initiative is available from scorer.aco@ecb.co.uk

Congratulations to Eight Newly Qualified Umpires

The North Yorkshire branch as been running a Level 1 Umpires Course for the last few weeks, culminating in the qualification of eight new umpires:  Ian Giddings, Andy Morgan, Richard Canham, Alex Wilson, Chris Hendry, John Barnes, Dick Lloyd and Rob Mackay all achieved the necessary pass marks.

Well done to all.

Cricket Laws, Level 1 Course and 2012

I’m not 100% sure who Acumen Books are but I am led to believe they are a hangover from the ACU&S which was the predicessor organisation to the ECB ACO.  I received an email from them this morning and found a useful link to a pdf document, quite large, don’t print it out as its over 150 pages, which may be of use.  It contains some useful questions on the Laws, together with answers, which might prove useful to those of you on the level 1 umpires course.

On the subject of Level 1 Umpires, and to save me an email, there will be NO Level 1 course on Monday 21st November, use this as a revision day and stay at home.  The Level 1 umpires exam will take place on Monday 28th November from 7.30pm at Ripley Castle Tea Rooms.  I am sure all of us would wish the best of luck to all the candidates and I personally hope to see many of you standing in the Nidderdale sunshine in 2012 putting your new skills into practise.

Thinking about the 2012 season.  Hopefully the Nidderdale League fixtures will be available soon and I will be in touch with the Nidderdale panel umpires about appointments probably in the New Year.  Anyone who has received this email as a local resident umpire and wishes to make themselves available, or unavailable, for the Nidderdale League, please let me know or give me a ring to have a chat.

Call for Umpires – Junior Indoor Competition

The Nidderdale and District Amateur Cricket League has run a VERY successful junior indoor 6-a-side League for many years now.  The competition is organised and run by husband and wife team of Bill and Val Kitson.

The competition is now so popular that it has been spilt over two sites, Boroughbridge Leisure Centre and Pateley Bridge Leisure Centre.

Bill and Val need umpires to officiate in fixtures.  It is a very fast paced game and certainly sharpens the senses for the outdoor season.  It is also extremely rewarding to watch how enthusiastic the junior players are.

If you are able to give up some time during the winter to help junior cricket, please get in touch with Bill or Vall on 01845 597402 or valkit@live.com

YCB ACO North Yorkshire

An evening with Adrian Grayson and AGM -Friday 7th October

For those of you involved in local sport, the name and face of Adrian Grayson will be very familiar to you.  Adrian has kindly accepted the invitation to come and speak at our forthcoming AGM about his experiences in football and cricket but also teaching and coaching.  He also has had a hand in producing two sporting legends himself – Paul (Essex CCC Coach and Simon (Leeds United Manager).  Adrian will have many stories from his experiences over the years espeically in the handling of unruly individuals in the classroom.

Adrian has been inaugurated into the York Senior Cricket League Hall of fame and merits it in a number of ways, including talented player, club and league representative captain, top quality coach, organiser of youth cricket and the driving force behind Bedale Cricket Club during their second spell as members of the York Senior League. Adrian has been heavily involved in all these activities for 30 plus years and is still heavily committed to his coaching and youth promotion work, as well as being chairman of his club.  Adrian was the recipient of the Yorkshire Cricket Board award for Services to Youth Representative Cricket in 2007.

The evening will commence with a brief branch AGM but is intended to be a relaxed social evening and will also include a question and answer session with Adrian.  Come prepared to ask him about what its like to be the father of two successful sportsmen……

There will be tea and coffee upon arrival and an informal buffet.  There will be a raffle and the opportunity to learn more about becoming involved with the ECB ACO as a cricket umpire or scorer.

Come along and listen to Adrian but also to meet up with other local cricket umpires and scorers in a social setting at the historic Ripley Castle.

This event is open to everyone with the the event free to members of the ECB ACO and a nominal charge of £7.00 for non ECB ACO members will be collected upon arrival.
